General scheme, which allows notarization with sufficient security for practical purposes, can be presented by the following scheme:
Front-End Technology Stack
User Registration and Authentication The blockchain can be viewed as a decentralized certificate authority that can maintain the mapping of identities to public keys — as such it enables digitally sign claims, transactions, and documents, control and send value on a blockchain and encrypt messages and data, etc. (see https://www.uport.me/). The first step in most cases (except just sending values and/or obtaining time stamps) is, for the sake of safety and security, proper user authentication. One of the DLT solutions is presented by the uport, which is foreseen to be implemented in the Notary services. While still in the beta, another centralized, but reliable solutions are implemented in the early phases of the Notary apps.
Frameworks for Mobile Application Different quality frameworks can be used for the development of the front-end (GUI), through which user interacts with the Notary app.
Possible candidates for GUI are:
ionic, which is the mobile app stack that enables web developers apps for all major app stores and the mobile web with a single code base.
phonegap, which enables to quickly make hybrid applications built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript by existing web development skills. PhoneGap Build takes the pain out of compiling PhoneGap apps
React, which enables building mobile apps using only JavaScript. Developers can build a real mobile app that’s indistinguishable from an app built using Objective-C or Java.
web3.js, which is the Ethereum compatible JavaScript API, implements the Generic JSON RPC spec.
Beta version of the Notary app was developed by using React. However, further development may require other framework.
Back-End Technology Stack
Back-end technology is directly connected to the blockchain. It involves different processes, like image processing, data encryption, connection with ethereum blockchain, storage of data etc.
Nginx proxy: Nginx will be deployed to serve dynamic HTTP content on the network using FastCGI, SCGI handlers for scripts, WSGI application servers or Phusion Passenger modules, and it will serve as a software load balancer. It uses an asynchronous event-driven approach to handling requests. Nginx’s modular eventdriven architecture can provide more predictable performance under high loads.
Data Encryption and Image processing will provide, alongside Smart Contracts, secure content. Ethereum Blockchain Client in general parses and verifies the blockchain, its smart contracts and other related things. It also provides interface to create transactions — in case of Notary service provides unique hash with timestamp on the Ethereum blockchain.
Ethereum Swarm Client provides interface for interaction with a distributed storage platform and content distribution service. Its objective is to peer-to-peer storage and serving solution that is DDOS-resistant, zero-downtime, fault-tolerant and censorshipresistant as well as self-sustaining due to a built-in incentive system which uses peer to peer accounting and allows trading resources for payment.
