Minister Wopke Hoekstra of Finance wants to regulate international trade in cryptocurrency to tackle improper use of digital coins. A prohibition is not obvious.
He wants to bring cryptocurrencies within an "appropriate regulatory framework" without jeopardizing the potential of the technique.
For example, the conversion of digital currencies into regular money should not be allowed to go unnoticed. The minister wants exchange platforms and providers of storage vouchers for cryptocurrencies to be covered by anti-money laundering directives.
Legislation should be finished by the end of 2019
