"A new wallet has been released 8th January, which most likely will support the fork."
-> the only thing you need for the fork (in order to receive BTCP) is your coins on an address for which you have the private key (ie not on an exchange if it does not support the fork). So basically you can also just create a paper wallet (see http://zclassic.org/) to store your ZCL safely.
