It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness… These are the best lines describing the industry today.
OKEx is moved (or somebody says it just opened another branch) in Malta, making Malta the home or second home to the 2 largest exchanges, OKEx and Binance.
What does Malta offer to those two giants? A crypto-friendly jurisdiction? Potential Licensing regime for crypto business? An English-speaking country? British legal system? These are the common understanding in the industry.
If they are the only reasons, then don’t the exchanges go to Gibraltar?
Gibraltar has all along been known as crypto-friendly country. Gibraltar’s licensing regime has announced long before Malta’s. It has announced that any crypto company doing business in Gibraltar before December 2017 will have a grace period to obtain license, while Malta’s grace period only starts on 1 June 2018.
I have flirted with both Gibraltar’s and Malta’s regulators. To know the insider truth of the two countries, you have to see my next post.
