If you are reading this, there is a good possibility that you are on the blockchain trying to monetize your content creation. For many folks, especially those that are just starting out, that tends to be harder than you originally thought. In order to generate a following, and in the process an ongoing income, you have to be consistently posting new stuff. Due to time constraints, interest, or a host of other reasons, some people want to post more frequently that others. The challenge comes in when you have to find a new topic to write about each time. For each person, the path to new content will start and proceed in different directions (possibly more than one). The purpose of this post is the share my experience in the area of content creation and do my best to answer the question, "What is the best topic to blog about?" Personally, when I sit down to write a blog post, I have two topics that I generally turn to. I will cover each one here and then share what I think is the best topic for blog posting.

The first topic I go to in order to create a new post is talking about something I want to teach others. Whether this means telling about what I have learned (like this post) or teaching how to complete a specific task (step-by-step instructions), when I pass along what I have learned, I find I receive a certain satisfaction of accomplishment. This becomes particularly beneficial when you receive feedback in the form of questions. These questions can help you learn more about your followers and their interests, broaden the scope of your teaching, and create opportunities for you to increase your understanding of the topic by requiring you to do some research in order to answer the questions. I also think this is an excellent avenue of providing value (one of the cornerstones of building a following). By teaching others what you know, you are building their confidence in your expertise and your willingness to share information. Finally, teaching others without compensation leads directly into the Reciprocity Principle (people tend to pay back what they receive from others).
The other topic I generally utilize in order to create a post is something that I am passionate about. When you talk about something you love, it is seldom difficult to come up with dialogue. I know when I talk about family history, I can go on for days about different aspects and tactics I use to capture information I find important that I want to share with my loved ones. I am also interested in hearing other people tell about their experiences and share what they have learned about their ancestors. That is why I created the Family History Community. I have other passions, as well, but this is the one that I am looking to monetize and see if I can build a business around, so this is the one I blog about (using my account).
So, I have given you the two topics I mostly choose to focus on when I create a blog post. But that wasn't the main point of this post. If you have read this far, you are wanting to know the BEST topic for you to use when you create a new post. Well, actually, it's a trick question. I think the best topic to use when you create a new post is the one that uses both of these techniques...teach something you are passionate about. Not only do you get to share your knowledge on a topic in which you feel you have something to share, but it is a topic you love (which makes it not a chore, but a joy).
So, what topics do you know enough about to teach others? {NOTE: If you would like a bit more information about teaching others in your posts, you can check out THIS VIDEO.} What topics are you passionate about? Most importantly, what can you teach others about in the topic you love?
