I have been singing most of my life.. In the 60s, I was part of a folk group (who wasn't), but I lost my soprano range during an especially bad sore throat that I tried to sing through... Five years later, when the Good Lord gave me back my singing voice, it came back in the tenor range... my new vocal coach said I had always been a tenor and that soprano was a strain... who knew? Back in the day, girls sang soprano or alto, boys sang tenor or baritone/bass. I would have to step outside my comfort zone.
I accepted the challenge, took lessons to learn my "new" voice, and I joined my church choir, the only female tenor.. the ONLY tenor... When we moved south, I joined that church choir, and became one of several tenors... I learned so much from them... I even stepped up in the summer, when choir was on "vacation" to sing solos. Again, I stepped outside my comfort zone...
A new choir director came and I learned he also had a community choir that sang benefit concerts. I watched and enjoyed them. This past year, I once again stepped out of my comfort zone and was accepted by them... Professional singers and music students, I REALLY stepped out of my comfort zone... but it was the best choice ever.
With the current mess, we have not been able to sing together as a choir, but our talented director had us all record in our own homes and submit them. We ALL stepped out of our comfort zones with this. He then "pasted" them together for this lovely piece... Please take a moment to listen and enjoy....
If I had not taken the first step out of my comfort zone years ago, I would have missed all the joy that singing has given me. I will never be a rock star, a country star, or any other kind of star... well, maybe a vocal Grandma Moses.. lol...
Eliana Gomes stepped out of her comfort zone and created a whole program with CTP BluePrint (https://ctpblueprint.com/?rid=10)... This unique program has something to offer to the newbies and to the old-timers... do yourself a favor and check it out..
Step outside YOUR comfort zone and see what miracles can happen...
