If you tolerate the Cult you are tolerating the end of toleration. If you protect the Cult from its critics, you are helping bring about the death of toleration. You are protecting the people who are going to make you abandon toleration. Your position contradicts itself. It is self-cancelling. It guarantees that you will fail. Tolerance is what you should be tolerating. You cannot therefore allow them to push out what you rightly regard as precious. You cannot allow toleration to be crushed. You cannot tolerate those ideologically committed to extinguishing it. You should attend to what they are saying and acknowledge what they intend to do. You should listen to their threats and understand the seriousness with which they are made. You may have never met people with their views and determination before. But now you have. We are all now face to face with people who are committed to ending our culture of toleration.
This may be a shockingly new thought to you. But you should consider whether which of you has a better grasp of the situation – you, or them. You should ask yourself whether you have really acknowledged how different the situation has become now. They do. They have a much better grasp of the weakness of your position than you do. They see that your time is coming to end. You cannot see the new situation and are unable to recognise the challenge they are making. Your own patronising attitude towards other cultures, and towards your own people and culture, has left you unable to see how things have changed. Don't imagine that as things are, so they will always be. These people are committed to bringing tolerance to an end. They are going to force you to give up your position and to accept theirs. They will attempt to persuade you, of course. But they are not really concerned about gaining your consent. But if not by persuasion, your position will change under coercion. Unless you defend yourself, you will capitulate. They could not care less what your views are and are not capable of recognising the long term consequences of their action. We are up against a cult that only knows about coercion. It promotes itself by force, and it has to be opposed by force. It may be stopped by the force of law. But this very simple contrast must be understood. Our consent and toleration is under threat from the coercion and compulsion of this cult. We must defend our toleration by the force of law.
