You wonβt believe how colorful today was! π Today was ASA (Culture) Day here in Ondo State, and honestly, it felt like stepping into a beautiful movie about our roots.
From the moment we gathered, everywhere was bursting with culture. Since weβre in the Southwest, of course the Yoruba culture showed up and showed out! The outfits? Stunning. The beads? Shining.
The confidence? On another level! π Even though this is predominantly Yoruba land, some students proudly represented the Igbo culture too, and it was so beautiful to see that blend. It reminded me how diverse and rich Nigeria truly is.
And the dancing? Ahhh! We danced like nobody was watching! ππΎπ Students, teachers β nobody carried last. Once the drums started beating, self-control disappeared. Everybody just let go and enjoyed the moment.
Some of the teachers even brought food real, correct Yoruba delicacy! Iyan (pounded yam) with efo⦠and when I say it was sweet ehn, just imagine soft, stretchy iyan with that rich vegetable soup. We shared, we laughed, we ate together like one big family.
But beyond the fun, today really made me appreciate my culture more. Sometimes we get so used to everyday life that we forget how beautiful our traditions are. Seeing everyone proudly dressed, dancing our indigenous dances, and celebrating who we are⦠it just did something to my heart.
Iβm honestly so glad I experienced it.
Below is a video showing our indigenous dance you need to see it for yourself! π₯β¨
