Bet you didn't know the kiss actually has some historical background. Here you go some facts! 😃
💋 The first kiss shown in a movie was more than 100 years ago
From "Pretty Woman" to "Spiderman," we have seen many kisses. However in 1896 Thomas Edison the famous founder of the light bulb was the first to shoot a movie showing a kiss on the screen. "Kiss" is a 23-second movie staring Maye Irwin and John Rice, and was released at a time when kissing in public was still a taboo.
💋 Ancient Romans set the rule for the wedding kiss
"You may kiss the bride." These words sound pretty familiar to us, but do you know where they come from? This can be traced back to the time when the ancient Romans officially signed contracts with a public kiss. In the book "The Roman Wedding: Ritual and Importance in Antiquity", the same act is also performed in order the relationship between two people to be legalized.
💋 A kiss instead of a signature
Back in the past when many could not read and write, the kiss was also used when signing contracts. People placed "X" instead of their name and kissed the sign. That's why nowadays in postcards and text messages "X" symbolizes a kiss.
