At the height of my addiction to mountain biking, I kept pushing for longer and longer distance rides. On April 15, 2017, I decided to take on the longest ride of my life yet.
Now I'm not a religious person but I chose to ride to this famous devotee spot in Samar during the holy week. The spot is known as St. Anthony de Padua Shrine, more commonly referred to as Sulangan church.
From my location, it was 350-ish kilometers away. I chose to do it during the weekend and was prepared to do it overnight if needed. The important thing is to do it in one ride. No overnight stops.
The weather wasn't cooperating. I knew there was a storm passing by Samar area but I ride rain or shine or storm. Here are some pics of the journey.
The map above is just a recreation of the route I took for my ride. I wasn't running Strava at that time so that's all I got to show.
I also witnessed a van that crashed into a tree because how slippery the road was due to rain.
Some uphills along the way. Actually, there were a lot of uphills along the way.
My first bike parked right across the church itself.
