Dad tip of the day: Help kids learn how to be creative and make something - this will expand their thinking and help them learn new things.
Kids tend to think of things in black and white. It takes time and energy to help them be creative before they are able to do it on their own - it is a learned trait. Creativity in kids is important as it is expanding their brain usage and helps them think of things in more abstract ways.
The other day, Jacob was bored. We have a set of soft blocks that he often plays with as building materials for his construction vehicles. This time though, I recommended we make a race track for the hot wheels with them. He looked at me quizzically and I started the to make the track. He soon caught on, and he built much of the track on his own. He even stated that I forgot to make a hole so the cars could get in, and redid part of the track that I had built! The ability to create things is important, whether it is art, architecture, or a business plan. Starting kids off early and helping them create things will go far to assist in their development as a person.
