Dad Tip of the Day: Kids will imitate and copy their parents – set the proper example in all areas of life.
I am sure most people have heard the phrase “do as I say, not as I do”, meaning to listen to their words and forget about their actions.
When it comes to parenting, this strategy does not work. Kids are sponges who soak up everything their parents say and do. They eventually begin copying and imitating their parents and the people they are around. Due to this, your kids will be a reflection of you, so we must set a good example in order for our kids to have proper behavior and actions.
Young kids just want to be like their parents – the way they talk, act and respond. I still say “bummer” a lot – as an example, when something falls on the floor. Sure enough, this was one of the first words my kids learned and it sure is adorable to hear them say “buuuummmmeeerrrr” when they drop something!
The other day, Kendra was wanting to play in my truck, and she ended up pulling out a jacket I keep in there and wanted to wear it…. OK, sure sweetie, here you go:
So remember, actions speak louder than words, especially when it comes to impressionable kids – set the right example!
Take care,
Brian
