I can think of so many things that are worse than growing up with an absent father.
- Driving with a biscuit spare wheel for a month because you had a puncture and can't afford a new tyre.
- Dropping out of University to go be an exploited skivvy in the tv & film industry.
- Being extremely short sighted, vision score in the negatives.
- Being short, just under 150CM tall.
- Not having a flat tummy therefore being unable to look saucy in a bikini.
There is a saying in Setswana - "Se sa mpatleng se nrola moroalo"
Loosely translated - What doesn't want me spares me the burden.
I learn so much from the men I meet along my life journey. From colleagues to the wise shop owner with an Engineering qualification down the street. All this without having to live with the flaws of a man you are stuck with. Father's can be a problem, all those with fathers can give me a list of things which are better than having one around all your life.
I am at a point in my life where I accept that my problems are not the result of the absence of a father. This makes it possible and easier to fix whatever is wrong.
A few more things worse than growing up without a father
- Living with a father who can't handle his liquor
- Being a video editor in a noisy environment
- Living alone, then coming home in the evening to find an albino lizard in your bathroom...yikes!
