All of the photo's in this post are of my dad, Pasquale while serving in the US Army - Korea.
I stumbled across this film the other night – and I just had to watch the whole thing! It’s the story of a true (Italian) “American Dream” come true!
I never knew this movie existed! Though my Dad and I watched several “Marciano” clips together when he was still alive and lived here with me, I sure wish my Dad were still here to have watched this movie with me. I thoroughly enjoyed this film– perhaps because I know just how much my Dad would have loved it – he was my “Rocky.”
If you’ve got an hour and a half, and want to experience a real-life American Dream come true from “the silent generation,” (those born between the two world wars,) – grab some popcorn, crack open a beer, pour a glass of wine or two, and enjoy the show. It was a made for television movie that came out in 1999, – and I had no idea it even existed!
The movie stars: Judd Hirsch, Tony LoBianco, George C. Scott, and John Favreau as Rocky Marciano.
A beautiful savage of a man, a great natural athlete, born with an iron will, a guy who never took “no” for an answer, and an all around good sportsman & a good-hearted guy that just got it done – whatever it took.
Forget about the Mike Tyson’s of our world; Rocky Marciano was a true hero from beginning to end! And, you can forget about Stallone too, because Marciano was very much indeed, the real-life ROCKY!
This post is lovingly dedicated to my beloved father, Pasquale...
PEACE, LOVE, & JUSTICE for ALL
PS
For those who may be interested in a documentary of his life story, I found this film rather complimentary, fascinating, extremely thorough and very well done. My father would have loved this too - perhaps even more so than the movie!
GO ROCKY!
