If we are to discuss engineering, how can we ever forget a miracle of engineering that is the leaning tower of Pisa in italy?
It is known worldwide for its unintended tilt.
Here are some fast facts about it!
It began to lean to one side in the 12th century when the foundation of the building was more soft on one side than the other. The tilt increased till 14th century. But was was later partially corrected in late 20th and early 21st century.
It has a towering height of 183.3 ft.
It is constructed out of marble and stone.
The tower has a whooping 296 steps on North side and 294 on the south side.
It was a military base during world war 2!
It has a total of 8 floors.
Over the centuries the tower has actually leaned in multiple directions! It eventually settled in a southward tilt where it has stayed ever since.
The bells on the top of the tower haven't rung since 20th century as the engineers fear that'd lead to the tower toppling even more.
The stairs are heavily eroded.
What's more, it's open to visitors!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank @Sirknight for arranging this challenge.
