Day 5 - Learn a New Vocabulary Word or Bible Verse.
We should never stop learning! Take the time today to learn a new word, or Bible verse. If you choose to learn a new word, maybe take it a step further and study the origin/meaning of the word. There have been many times where i'm talking to a boss, or a friend, and I catch myself stumbling mid sentence because I don't have a word for a certain situation. If we take the time to constantly learn new words to expand our vocabulary, we will not only sound smarter, but we will be exercising our brain. Studies show that by Practicing Memorization can help reduce the risk of Alzheimer's Disease. The other option is to learn and memorize and new Bible verse. Obviously it might take you longer then 1 full day to learn a verse, but just pick a verse that relates to you and keep reciting it all day in your head. If you have time, maybe even do a little research on the Scholarly research done behind that specific scripture so you can understand the meaning a little better.
How was everyone's Day 4? Did you take the time to be a good listener? How did it feel to not talk as much, and just listen to everyone around you? Did you learn anything new from the people you are always around by listening to them? I know I had to catch myself several times wanting to give my 2 sense during several conversations I had, but I just sat there and listened. Yesterday I went to Taco Bell to grab a bite for lunch, and met a homeless man there. I invited him to come sit down and eat with me. After about 30min of just listening to him talk, I learned so much about his life! On the outside he was dirty and bloody, but on the inside he was hurting from his past. At the age of 15 he broke his hip and his leg, and was transfer to the same hospital where is mom ended up in at the same time, and she died within a week due to health reasons. His dad was an alcoholic, so for the next 5-10 years he was in and out of different foster homes. He struggles with letting go of the past, and can't bring himself to making a decision to change on his own. It was a pretty emotional conversation for me, but afterwards we said our goodbyes, and I was able to pray with him and speak words of encouragement over his life. If I wasn't doing this challenge myself, I think I would've talked his head off and not learned anything about his life. People just want to be heard steemians! Continue to be good listeners!
