This emoji with the name “Moyai” is often interpreted as a Moai, a monolithic human figure carved out of tuff (a type of rock made of volcanic ash) more than half a millennium ago by the Rapa Nui people on Easter Island. But originally, it was supposed to show a similar looking statue called Moyai, located near Shibuya Station in Tokyo:
