Indonesia Menari, that's the name of the event I participated in. Dance with traditional dances combined with modern dances. Indonesia Menari was also held in three places, Jakarta, Bandung and Solo. This event was held at Mall Grand Indonesia, Jakarta and was organized by Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation in 2017.
Indonesia Menari takes place in the form of a mass dance with choreography that was worked on by Rosmala Sari Dewi. She combined several traditional Indonesian dances and modern hip-hop dances, resulting in a dance with a duration of 4 minutes.
In this dance there are 6 elements of traditional dances from Aceh, West Java, Central Java, East Nusa Tenggara, Sumatera and Maluku. Songs from this area such as Bungong Jeumpa (Aceh), Cik Cik Periuk (West Kalimantan), Cingcangkeling (West Java), Rasa Sayange (Maluku), Si Patokaan (North Sulawesi) and Gemu Fa Mi Re (East Nusa Tenggara) are also included. Accompanying, arranged by Pongky Prasetyo.
This event was held simultaneously in three cities and was attended by thousands of participants wearing traditional Indonesian clothes. Indonesia Menari is also held every year and is always a big event, not only participants but also visitors wearing traditional clothes.
My six friends and I joined to register and became a participant representing my community at that time. We train 3 times a week in a period of 1 month with a fairly intense training.
The day of the event arrived, we arrived at 6 am and got ready, wearing costumes and make up. Even though we are nervous, we are still happy because this only happens once a year, and even then the participants are always limited, lucky we were chosen.
After everything was ready, at 9 am the program started, the participants were scattered in various places in the mall, some on the first floor, the second floor and so on. After the participants are ready, we are asked to dance in two rounds without stopping, if the duration of the dance is 4 minutes then we will dance for 8 minutes without stopping.
After that we were asked to come to the first floor where the main stage is to announce the winners of this event. We didn't win it but we are happy to be able to participate in Indonesia Menari. This will be a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
