Here are some images taken from inside the inner circle. It’s such a hauntingly beautiful place, foreboding and private, yet friendly and intimate. You can’t get this feeling in throngs of thousands.
In this view, you can just see the long queue of traffic up the A303 – many of whom are waiting to turn into the road for Stonehenge. Although the traffic layout has changed a bit since I was there last, I’m sure the traffic queue has not.
And here, what I consider my best-ever image of Stonehenge. A few minutes at the end of our ritual to look around. A child’s forgotten drum makes a wonderful modern contrast to the ancient stones. (The mother later apologized for their error, but I told her it was one of the things I loved best about this image!)
Finally, it’s time to leave. Someone is reluctant to depart…
