"Dear Dawne - Tag Talk!" - Season 1 - Episode 3
We Have An Experienced "Steemit Personal Mentor" To Help You Directly!
General Topic: How To Properly Tag Your Post & Other Tag Information
There has been a lot of chatting about and concerns with knowing the “rules” of tags on steemit; and I know it can be confusing some days. So let me hopefully give you all some basic guidance here today.
How do you know which tag to use?
Process of elimination – questions to ask yourself when making a post- What is the main topic? Does this post fall into an already established tag? Who do I want to share this post with?
- Once you have those answered, you should be able to figure out what tags to attach to your post. If you are doing photography there are MANY photography contests on steemit from colorchallenges to smartphonephotography, macrophotography to architecturalphotography. Just do you research a little to make sure you are tagging properly to get it seen by the correct audience.
Group tags- if you belong to Discord groups like steemitbloggers, steemgigs, thesteemengine, etc- make sure to tag the group. Sometimes there are curators looking for these tags.
Using LARGE steemit tags- Maybe you want a larger fish, dolphin, whale or curator to see your post. So many people use tags like promo-steem, ocd-resteem, adsactly, etc.
Just because you CAN use five tags, doesn't mean you HAVE to. There have been times when I have only had three or four. Later that day or the next, I will think of another and go back into my post, hit edit and add the new tag I thought of. Editing your posts doesn't have a loss of sbd or steem, but it may cause issues with bandwidth- so be careful.
Use the introduceyourself ONLY once. You used this when you first started, and there are people on steemit that frown upon using this tag multiple times just to get traffic to your page and some of them may FLAG your post.
Any questions you may have that I haven't covered regarding tags, please comment below and I'll hopefully be able to answer for you.
