What is Decoupage?meaning to cut out—is a craft or art form that entails pasting cut-outs (typically paper) to an object and then covering them with several coats of varnish or lacquer.
I went to Dollar Tree and got some plain, glass plates ,just clear plates.
I am trying to make some things, for a craft fair to earn money for Christmas.
So I got four that is the basic amount a any given table setting.
So i got some cheap napkins, and i had the Mod Podge. It is a thinned permanent "white glue" (like Elmers GlueAll or a tacky-type glue, etc.) which is sold specifically for doing decoupage.
So I washed the plate, and soaked the sticker off, and rinsed and dried well.
Then I turned my plate over ,and side you would eat out off,was facing down so it does not touch food.
Then I took a brush and lightly applied the Mod Podge to the plate with the glue.
I then took a designer napkin it has several ply's ,you pull that apart and use the one that has the design.
with the design facing down you apply the glue to plate, and smooth the napkin over it.
You have to take your time and work in sections. So the design is facing down. And you keep applying, and smoothing out ,the wrinkles.slowly so you do not tear or rip.
When you are all done you let it dry over night.Next day you turn over ,and all the pieces that are coming over edge of plate, you use a file and file them off.If the plate meets what you like then you seal the back with a varnish or a sealer. you can see what i created here.(https://www.youtube.com/user/maineroses)
