An Icelandic Inventor invents a bird-like drone named, Flygidi, the Silent Flyer for incognito surveillance. “First, we build a bird-like device where we use seabirds as models. Secondly, we use evolutionary computational methods to teach the device to fly like a bird,” explains Hjalti Hardarson, Icelandic Inventor.
Designed for vertical takeoff and landing, the flapping motion is extremely quiet and cannot be distinguished from real birds by a radar, the inventor says.
“We have already a flapping wing setup to generate lift and forward motion, and it’s still a work in progress and we’re constantly improving the flying performance,” added Hardarson. This bird-like drone is perfect for incognito surveillance missions and, “In any scenario where you do surveillance on a large group of people, at a concert or a soccer game, you can now do it without being detected,” added Hardarson.
