Just got back from vacation, only to find our Dutch government is going crazy. They would like to introduce a law that allows tracking of all data traffic in the Netherlands... So glad we're organising a referendum against this, but the conversation in Holland goes a bit like this:
"Did you sign already?"
"For what?"
"The referendum against the 'Sleepwet' of course"
"What kind of law is that?"
"A law that enables tracking of all your data, to be shared with foreign security servic.."
“Oh stop right there, I've got nothing to hide. So let them."
"I wasn't asking whether you were for or against the law, I was asking if you had already signed for the referendum about it."
"It's pointless, do you remember the European Constitution in 2012? The Ukraine referendum last year? They will do what Brussels dictates anyway..."
“And you accept that?”
“What should I do? Move to a foreign country? And if so, to where? There is no perfect place on this earth.”
It's good to be back after the holidays, but the realisation that nothing has changed is creeping up on me...
