It's been almost a year since Allan () and I moved to Denmark. We live in a town called Præstø which means "preists' island." It's not an island, it does occupy a little land mass in the Præstø Fjord.
I took this photo tonight from the shore across from downtown Præstø at sunset, which in Scandinavia is right around 4pm. The water was very quiet and no wind, which made for a beautiful evening in the land of the Norse.
Although we've been here for almost a year, I still don't have a residency permit. I applied for one in September of 2024 and should have received an answer by May of 2025. However, the ministry of immigration sort of "misplaced" my application and we never heard anything until we called them in October. (You're warned not to call but by this point we figured we had nothing to lose.) The ministry apologized for dropping our ball and then promptly rejected my application.
Confusion ensued and our attorney communicated with us that Allan (who is a Danish citizen) would have to prove that he can speak Danish by taking a test. This requirement was dropped a few weeks later.
Now, the requirement is that I will have to take a test to prove I can speak English. (You must speak either English or Danish to get a residency permit.) And that's what I'll be doing tomorrow.
Wish me luck!
(Another shot across Præstø Fjord this evening.)
