Scrolling through my feed, I noticed that is hosting an architectural photography contest. I’ve withheld from competing before because I’m a wannabe photographer ... maybe not even that.
Despite my incompetence, I love taking pictures of architecture. Arches, walkways, and windows are some of my favorites.
Plus, I had the opportunity to visit some really old architecture when I was working in the Middle East.
This is Al Qosh, an ancient Assyrian monastery. It is still in working order (you can see where they’ve maintained the walls on the upper section) but is located in a city where you have to obtain special permission to visit. When pursued by enemies, the people would flee to the monastery and hide in the caves below.
I don’t think I adequately captured the beauty of this place, but it’s fun to reminisce and share such a memorable place!
