Un giorno a MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art), Nuovo York.

Last weekend, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see an Italian architect Ettore Sottsass’s work. I’ve seen a piece of Ettore's work here and there on Instagram/magazines but haven’t seen it as a collection. MET’s exhibition advertisement, which is everywhere in NYC, says ‘Design Radical!’
I was very intrigued...

If you have been to MET Breuer, you notice how brutal the architecture is (I love it!)

mobili design del Ettore | Source: Dezeen
A polymath guy, he has done a spectrum of design work from architectural drawings, furniture products, ceramic, textile design and machinery design. The overall body of work was meticulosity presented based on "types."

.
Can you tell these furniture pieces were designed in the 1960s? The proportion, composition of materiality, playful color and finish that he put together is very unorthodox an surprising.

.
He designed every-day functional objects with the utmost simplicity that each work seemed visually light and delight to look at.

Ettore concocted the Valentine Portable Typewriter in 1968 with an expectation that this would become an everyday commodity.

“I worked sixty years of my life, and it seems the only thing I did is this fucking red machine. And it came out a mistake. It was supposed to be a very inexpensive portable, to sell in the market, like pens… Then the people at Olivetti said you cannot sell this.” (1993)
