Loyalty is one of the most essential ingredients of any interpersonal relationship.
Looking up the Oxford Dictionary for the definition of loyalty, you find an interesting explanation thus:
"Giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution.”
We all need and expect loyalty from those whom we are in relationships with, as well as in our friendships with peers.
Our country, religion affiliation and beliefs requires our loyalty. Our professional affiliation also requires our loyalty. Loyalty to your teams as in the game of sports, music and movie stars etc.
BE LOYAL TO YOURSELF
Loyalty is what builds a lasting relationship. And below, are few tips to build your loyalty.
- Stay Honest
It is almost impossible to be loyal without honesty. You need to trust someone to a point of being open with them. This will help you earn trust. Trust is the cardinal point for building loyalty.
- Stay Faithful
Faithfulness is like a twin brother to honesty. Faithful to your team members, to spouse etc
When you are faithful, you won't say something behind their back and say a different thing in their presence. You will stay true with them.
These also applies to the world of work. Do not bye pass your immediate supervisor to report directly to the director unless you absolutely need to.
Do not report your co-worker for simple mistakes when you've never made effort to correct or put them right.
Say only positive things about other team members. This may be hard, but it never hurts to try!
