Good Afternoon, Evening, and Morning Steemit crew.
I had a different photo that I wanted to take, and use from my journal when I was a little guy - it seems the journal is at my parents home, and I don't care to collect it just now for this post.
The SUPER handsome young guy in the photo there is me at my fifth birthday. I thought this was a decent picture, because it was at the age of five that I want to tell you about sorta kinda.
A handful of months after this photo, I received a flu shot. Very soon afterwards I got the flu, and was very sick for about a week. After the flu symptoms passed, something was still very wrong with me.
Because of the fact that my darling, wife are having our own little mini-elf we were speaking with my parents, sister, brother-in-law and some other friends about potty training. It came up that I was house broken (haha) at quite an early age. Mom says with pride 18 months is how old I was.
Now why did you bring this up Brock?
At five and a half years old I started peeing the bed. Yep, no pride here.
My blood sugar was high, because my pancreas stopped producing insulin in the amount it had been previously. Side effects of this are the need to urinate more to try to "get out the sugar" but actually, it's because there's protein and keytones in the urine, that make you urinate much more frequently - because it feels like fire inside of you.
My folks knew there was something wrong, and so they took me to the doc. They poked my finger, made it bleed and took a sample of the blood. Then they said they needed more blood, and that I needed to go to the hospital. The next day I STILL remember running away from everyone at the hospital because the "jerk face" doctor was trying to stab me with his needle, and: "if he wants to do that, I'll poke it right in his eye!"
I feel like a douche saying it, but I actually get a little choked up writing this now for some reason..
SO anyway, age five and a half - I'm diagnosed as a type 1, or "juvenile" diabetic.
I have nearly thirty years of ramblings to go over about this, and so I will try my best to keep this as an introduction to my diabetes, I'll try to make specific posts pertaining to the illness in the future.
I am yet to search the Steemit community to see if anyone else has written about diabetes, I suspect that someone has as it's such a common disease. I feel this is a wonderful venue to discuss these things. I believe that in doing so we have the ability to do a great many things that the world for the most part is not doing FOR US. We can share truthful information, from real diabetics (you WILL NOT READ HERE that garlic or cinnamon will cure you. It won't). I believe that with the right people and resources that we ought to be able to exchange steem for supplies that are required for a diabetic to live (still working on this idea, and welcome any help). Also I believe that having a network of people that are screwed up just like me, may help to keep people motivated to be less screwed up, or at least screwed up in a contained manageable way.
Like I said before, there's a hundred things I'm tempted to write about right now, but I'd like for this to be the sound board for all of you.
Questions, Comments, Suggestions: these are not requested now, but REQUIRED now for this post to be of any value. I have given you little to no information of value in this post with the exception of the little bit about the vaccination.
I have been educated on diabetes for 29 years now. I am also employed in the medical field, and have a great number of friends and colleagues that are also.
Lets make something special here for you dieofbetes peoples okay?
