this time I want to share with you my work process of a digital illustration. I was asked by a music company to make a strange, pseudo-mythological creature, with an equally rare and otherworldly instrument, but that the aesthetic was nice, simple and colorful. So for me, who am used to doing rather dark and overdone scenes, it was an interesting challenge.
ESP: Hola amigos, en esta ocasión quiero compartir con vosotros mi proceso de trabajo de una ilustración digital. Me pidieron de una compañía de música que hiciera una criatura extraña, pseudo-mitológica, con un instrumento igualmente raro como de otro mundo, pero que la estética fuera agradable, sencilla y colorida. Así que para mí, que estoy acostumbrado a hacer escenas más bien oscuras y recargadas, supuso un reto bastante interesante.
The first step was to sketch in pencil the creature and the scene around in my sketchbook. It was simply an initial idea from which to start working, but as you will see later I was constantly doing variations in digital.
El primer paso fue dibujar a lápiz la criatura y la escena en mi cuaderno de bocetos. Fue simplemente una idea inicial a partir de la cual empezar a trabajar, pero como verás más adelante estuve constantemente haciendo variaciones en digital.
Next I began to add Photoshop layers above the pencil guide, starting with spot colors, and later gradually adding more tones and details.
A continuación comencé a añadir capas de Photoshop por encima de la guía hecha a lápiz, empezando por aplicar colores planos, para más tarde ir añadiendo más tonos y detalles progresivamente.
And this is finally the result. I spent a lot of time devising what the shapes, shadows, tones and nuances of the creature and each of the accessories in the environment would be like, and above all, polishing them so that they did not have excessive detail and there was not a very overloaded scene.
Y este es finalmente el resultado. Dediqué bastante tiempo a idear cómo serían las formas, sombras, tonos y matices de la criatura y cada uno de los complementos del entorno, y sobre todo a ir puliéndolos para que no tuvieran excesivo detalle y no quedara una escena muy recargada.
