One of the things I enjoy about living in the country are the dirt roads. While I was out for a ride I stopped by this sign which I still do not understand. First of all, to call the roads in this area highways is stretching it a bit. To me a highway is a main thoroughfare where the roads are capable of handling traffic that can safely travel at higher speeds. These roads are usually paved.
Despite the fact that 99% of the roads in my town are dirt, the speed limit unless posted otherwise is 55mph.
The 2.5 ton limit on any axle is also a head scratchier. I guess that means that if you are driving a vehicle with two axles you are okay if there is 2.25 tons on each axle.
Why is the highway closed to vehicles heavier than 2.5 tons per axle during this time frame. The roads are usually in the worst condition just before the winter months when the dirt roads have been turned into mud roads.
Living here full time now for the past 2.5 years I have found it almost impossible to travel any faster than 40 mph.
Ruts take control of your car and redirect your vehicle at a whim. Potholes test your suspension. Slippery conditions, either from snow or rain, makes your vehicle head in directions not of your choosing.
The few pictures that follow are my dirt roads, and I dare anyone to travel at 55mph.
Hope you enjoyed! thebigsweed
