Geee...I dunno.
You reckon the truckers got tired of being treated like sub-humans (worse than animals), segregated from the 'quality folk', lied to, ripped off, abused by the cops and government and never allowed to go home?
I dunno how many times I told dispatch. "Hey...I'd like to be home for Christmas," or thanksgiving..or my son's birthday.
They said "Sure"...then dispatched me the Other way.
Gee...you think that might have anything to do with it?
To be a trucker for the last thirty years a guy had to love to drive. He had to love to drive MORE than he hated putting up with the crap. A lot of us were VietNam Era Vets....we knew first hand about the crap. For many of us being alone was better than putting up with people.
Driving a truck was being alone. Solitary confinement with a view. Most prisoners in jails had a better deal.
Now we're retirement age...and leaving the industry.
Suddenly the Trucking Companies can't find anyone who wants to work for free. $80,000 she says? For 'on-call' 24/7? Cause that's what you do. You're married to the damn truck...it's your responsibility..twenty four hours a day..
The pay per hour is less than working fast food ....and you don't even get fries with it.
Gee...wonder where all the truckers have gone...?
