Before the age of digitally streamed high-definition media, before the age of blu-rays, before DVDs or CD's, there were VHS tapes. This is a showcase of my Walt Disney VHS tape collection. Most of these tapes are the original copies I watched as a kid and have become relics over the years.
During the golden age of modern movie development, if you missed the chance to see a movie in theater, your only option was low resolution magnetic tapes that degraded each time you watched them. They were never meant to stand the test of time. All VHS tapes not stored in a freezer have degraded by now. Its rare to find one that has retained its quality.
They showcase an era where opening previews meant you had time to make popcorn and situate yourself properly on the couch. People these days would never have the patience to deal with this level of hassle for such low resolution payoff.
The idea of rewinding a movie every time you've watched it would cause mass hysteria globally with today's outlook. We need everything the moment we've clicked on it. During those moments VHS's rewound, everyone in the 90's collectively meditated allowing for overall better decision making. The 90's were magic, that's not just me saying so.
Anyone who had a sister during their childhood was part of the Disney generation. Because most Disney movie's focus on a feminine perspective, parents were pressured to allow their daughters to view themselves as Disney princesses. The brothers of those daughters were then forced to watch the Disney movies with them which created a divide between guys who had sisters and guys that didn't. Not everyone enjoyed Disney movies, but most people watched them back in the day as we didn't have YouTube. Our options were limited, so our appreciation for what we had was heightened. Good then was okay now.
