George was notoriously a huge fan of Star Wars parodies.
He actually approved of the Family Guy and Robot Chicken parodies and helped them out.
The major reason they stopped doing Star Wars parodies was because Lucasfilm hated them and thought they devalued the brand, so for a few years they had strict mandates against it.
Part of the reason Detours existed was because George wanted to make his own Star Wars parody.
Ralph 2 was supposed to have a joke where Kylo Ren shows up and is literally just a child, but Lucasfilm got furious and sent an angry letter saying that C-3PO is the only Star Wars character who is allowed to be made fun of.
Disney gave the Lucasfilm Story Group a lot more power after the buyout, but the rest of Lucasfilm was always down for them.
Tbh, them having more jurisdiction was a good thing in some cases, like them vetoing JJ blowing up Coruscant in Episode VII.
That's why the First Order just target Hosnian Prime instead and treat it like Coruscant got blown up.
But yeah, originally they even fought Respawn to enforce a single "canon" color for Cal—being blue.
As in, you couldn't change your lightsaber color in the game ever; you were forced to use blue the entire time.
Ofc, Respawn then escalated to Disney or something—I don't remember—and Disney said, "This is a game, chill," and only then was Respawn allowed to add the other colors.
Then they had them loosen up a few years ago, and that's why we're getting a lot more parody content, even with Survivor having Obi-Wan, Luke, and Han's clothing as customization options.
