Anyone with a tatty car can make it look nice again, I am a big believer in DIY so most projects I do myself and save myself £££.
With refurbing my alloys myself I have saved around £70 which if you live on a budget like we do every penny counts.
I have posted before my sanding down and after a respray but I didn't post the final look on the car.
There is still one alloy to respray but I have a problem, the locking wheel nut has broken and I can't take it off, I will be however going to a garage to have it removed, this costs about £10 per wheel.
Once the locking wheel nut is out I will be using normal wheel nuts on my car, over the years I have had a lot of locking wheel nuts break on me and I have spent a small fortune on replacing them, this time I have learned my lessons well and will not be making that mistake again.
This is my car from the passenger side, what do you think?
And these pictures are of the driver's side.
I have been tempted to see if I could spray around everything and leave the wheel on, but you know what, if I have a flat tire I will not be able to change it, so I might as well have it removed.
Each tire has taken me about 4 hours to complete, you do need a fair bit of sandpaper and some time as your wheel will be off the car while you are working on it.
I do recommend you have a shed or a small space to use to spray the wheels, this reduces dust and you can add a heater to the room and speed up drying.
I also recommend getting a flap wheel to be attached to your drill, this takes some time out of sanding the large chips and scrapes out.
You do have to make sure that the wheel is smooth so go over it again with some 180 grit sandpaper and then again with some 1500 grit sandpaper to get it really smooth.
Spraying the wheel is a skill, I ended up wasting a lot of paint as I had to go over the wheel a couple of times and resand a few times and spray a few times more.
Once I got the hang of spraying the other 2 wheels up to now have been easier to do, make sure you add 2 coats and then two coats of clear coat to give it a shine.
My next job will be to go over the wheels with some 2000 grit sandpaper then use a rubbing compound then polish then wax, this should make my wheels shine like the sun.
It has been a relaxing experience and something I would like to do again.
So what do you think? do you like the color of my wheels now or do you like the alloy look?
I chose to go a dark grey because I think it gives my car attitude and makes it stand out.
till next time guys stay safe
