Well in a bid to run a nice little eco system for the aquarium i seem to have had some little stow aways sneak in on some plants i bought.
It was to be expected as i made sure the plants i bought hadnt been dipped in any chemicals as these often contain copper that can wreak havoc on snail and shrimps which i planed to include in the tank.
I cant take any credit for this as it was inspired by a post i found on Pinterest when looling for ways to control snails with out chemicals and in a humane way.
Making the trap
This was super simple, all that was needed was
- an empty spice container
- some string
- a knife
- some bait
all i had to do was tie some of the string onto a container and widen some of the holes to accommodate the size of snails i wanted to remove.
for the bait ive been trying a few things to see what the snails are most attached to and have had great success with squash, carrot and sweet potato.
Once in the tank, its just a waiting game and within a few hours 100's of pond snails were inside.
These are removed and put into the water butt in the garden where they can go wild and have fun without causing problems for the shrimp and snails.
hope your all having a great day
All the best
Dan
