I got a bit obsessed with stacking Fire wood recently - A decent stack is essential to allowing enough airflow for it to dry out, and it's easy to cover a well stacked pile of wood over winter.
I hit upon the idea of using one of the trees towards the bottom corner of my land to stack all the wood we'd cleared from up the hill, it seemed like a good place to store it, as it all had to come down to be taken off the land to home in Penamacor anyway.
Here's how I started out a few days ago: note the smaller sacrifical logs on the bottom, they will just rot into the ground over winter....
I built it up gradually - 90% of it was done using the chainsaw as 90% of the logs I've got aren't thick enough to warrant splitting further with an axe, so I just did on to two battery's worth of sawing every time I went to the land......
Building up nicely after another day.... the idea is to use this pile before what's under the tarp in the background...... I'm not going to bother covering any of the wood above, it's just quickly out from the land and burn probably by the end of January....
The final stack, that's most of what was up above cleared out...
I'm still getting a feel for how much wood I'll need but I think this alone would be about three weeks worth evenings only, I don't burn during the day as I'm out, if I was burning 12 hours a day I'd probably get through this in 10 days, something like that.
It's only stack deep, that's the width of the tree.
Of course I took the opportunity to take a smug selfie (which has done the rounds, don't worry!)
I did use the axe on about three of the logs, but it's mostly just for show, but shhhhh!
