So maybe it's more than a barn.
Here we go, it's crunch time. winter is upon us (well, it is still pretty warm durring the day but the night's are starting to get chilly!), can we finish the Jellybean Hotel in time?.
My brother helped me yesterday, work out a schedule to finish this building as soon as possible.
I really needed help because I'm horrible at committing to schedules and therefore never use my calender for anything... I find it pointless, I'd rather have open ended things in my life. Maybe because I like freedom or maybe I just have fear of missing out!!! Either way, I know it gets in the way of my efficiency to execute on projects and time slips by.
Time management is definitely a skill set I have to work on.
There's a system I like very much that fits my way of thinking called the GTD system. Getting Things Done.
What we started doing yesterday was pretty much along side that same system. I want to write about what I must do this weekend as reinforcement to my commitment.
Project:
Jellybean Hotel
- Finish Roof Sheathing and Weatherproofing.
There's a bit of a balancing act we have to do between priorities, money and time... all the work we've spent so far must be saved from the damage bad weather can do.
So once the sheathing is done, I will cover it with a layer of plastic so that I can move on to covering the walls I order to save the posts! In other words, the money that I need for the metal roofing, will be used for the walls instead...
Here's what we need to do this weekend to stay on track:
9:00
- Rig the bucket of the tractor to be able to send materials up onto the roof. 30 minutes, one person.
- Prepare tools. 30 minutes, can be done by Jake while I rig tractor.
- nail gun, extra nails and
compressor - hammer
- chalk line
- t.square
- pencil
- screw guns and 3" and 1 and
1/4" screws - circ saw, table saw, chop saw
- nail gun, extra nails and
- Count how many bridging braces are still missing. 5 minutes, can be done while we prepare rools.
9:35
- Send up plywood sheathing and the last five rafters. 45 minutes, two people.
10:30
Adjust the south side hurricane ties for the five missing rafters to the proper measurements (they were nailed in on the wrong side of the line). 20 minutes, one person.
Fabricate the bridging braces (about 20 of them). 30 minutes, can be started while hurricane ties are being moved.
11:00
- Put the rafters in place. 30 minutes, two people.
11:30
- Screw in the bridging braces that are missing. 60 minutes, two people.
12:30
LUNCH
13:30
- Nail plywood sheathing down. 60 minutes, two people.
14:30
- Lay down the visquine in a way that it will not get ripped at the corners. 60 minutes, two people.
15:30
- Clean up the site. 30 minutes.
Yeah... written down like that seems like there's a lot of work there!!!! These times are also just estimates and I'm assuming that there'll be no problems...
But hey, enough excuses and let's get this thing finished. Even if we don't move into it this winter, it will be that much less work to deal with next year 😁!
