On August 9, 1945, America dropped the atomic bomb codenamed “Fat Man” over the Japanese city of Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people on impact. Thousands more would die later from burns and radiation sickness. The scene was hellish, as thousands lay dead or wounded underneath the debris.
