Yesterday evening about 15 minutes before sunset I wandered down to Ouse Fen to do a bit of bird-watching (twitching) it was nice and peaceful watching the ducks and swans and then out of nowhere a black headed gull dived into the water right in front of me.
I managed to get one photograph of it coming out of the water as you can see in the thumbnail.
Excitement and drama are not the kind of thing that I associated with this kind of activity but it had all that and more.
It must have been pure luck on my part but it appears I was standing in the main flight path of the ducks as they flew right over my head on their way to their overnight accommodation.
What appears to us to be a tranquil scene does indeed have all the drama of life and death for these animals. I'm sure the poor fish wondered what the heck happened as it became supper for the gull?
Nature is indeed. Red in tooth and claw
