So you’ve been streaming and posting videos on and then one day you check your post and all of a sudden it’s made $20 or more and your like wow that’s pretty awesome, you check the upvotes and you see the love
account has upvoted you by 6% or something.. it’s a sweet feeling.
But you might have asked well if that’s 6% and I’m getting $20 of upvote worth from it what’s 100% and how are they able to do that anyway? How come you cannot upvote your favourite things in the same way when your 100% is like $0.04 cents, well my friends the answer is in something called steem power.
Steem power is like your upvoting ability to curate content on the platform, the more steem power you have the more you are likely to get higher curation rewards for blogging on steemit but also you have a sliding scale of voting power that rises and falls over time, if you keep giving out votes that drops until it recharges over a number of days.
The bottom line is the more steem power you have the more you will receive rewards and the more ability you have to upvote someones blog post with the content in (like a video) and receive or give rewards.
If we take a look at the account you will see that has been delegated over two million steem power this is a hell of a lot of steem power — we only have to look at https://steemnow.com/@dlive to see that a 100% upvote from that account would give you $260 — wow! Crazy right?
So how did build up some much steem power? Well the answer is fairly straight forward and easy — they got a steem delegation from
one half of the founders of steem over two years ago, that’s right this social blockchain has been running now for twenty four months already and has nineteen HF (hardforks) already to get it to where it is today, not some ICO erc-20 that’s not been built yet (consider yourself incredibly lucky!)
so what they did is they built a service for the steem blockchain that not only will build IP for the blockchain but it will also bring users, hold retention (audience development) and is a service that most of us have gotta used to watching from other platforms like twitch, youtube etc — live streaming and video hosting is here to stay and is the first decentralised streaming platform that I I know of out there.
The power here is that you need a steem account to use the service so automatically you get people signing up to get a steem account to use the streaming platform, no other platform pays out like for live streaming with the time periods and allows you to build a crypto portfolio at the same time, that’s huge for new people looking at crypto for the first time.
has mentioned many times over the last year that he sees a whole ecosystem of platforms that use the steemconnect auth (think facebook connect but not stealing all your data) to connect to the steem blockchain — developing on the steem blockchain is a quite an experience too with lots of people building a version of your favourite website potentially in a decentralised way that is not governed by one central website.
I hope this helped a little understand why certain steemit accounts have more steem power than others and can assist you as a content creator understanding ‘where the money comes from’ — of course to deep dive that question we need to talk about how steem blocks are created and rewards pools and that’s way above my pay grade! :) (I leave that for the experts)
If you are coming from youtube, twitch or other centralised platforms where you are busting your balls to make things work and are seeing no return then I would seriously tell you to take a look at vlogging on , doing live streams and video uploading on
. music on
, memes on
and so on, seriously the steem blockchain is just growing in size and features every single day and you can build platforms here too.
Just imagine what you could do with a steem delegation from a whale on this platform, steem is the obvious investment of your time and money for the next few years at least moving forward and you still have time to jump onboard and become an active steemian! :)
