This clip was attributed to the great Mekatilili... A woman the Giriama people considered and still regard as their prophetess.
Born in the 1860s, Mekatilili was the only daughter in a house of five children. She lost a brother to Arab slave traders in the late 1800s which was one of them reasons she became so active in the early 1900s.
She once dared to slap Arthur Champion, a British Colonial Administrator, on a public meeting back in 1913 in a heated exchange over the British conscripting her people's warriors to go fight for them in what she called their stupid war... Which we may know as World War.
Mekatilili died in 1924 after being imprisoned twice and escaping twice while exiled more than 1000 KMs from her home.
She was and still is a legend ♥️🇰🇪
