Imagine having gone through pregnancy and then labor only to be so distraught and incapable as a new mother to choose to bury your baby alive?
This is the fate of hundreds of babies a year around the world. Some are left in ditches, creeks, dumpsters or drains. My first reaction is to be enraged and then file this travesty into the "I can't even" category. Thankfully, there are others that are attempting to provide a safe and effective alternative to these heinous acts.
Clearly as a civilisation we need to be doing better as this is a symptomatic issue which stems from a myriad of broken systems. There is absolutely no way to justify this termination of life and to all outside of the situation it's incomprehensible. Who do we blame the 15 year old child, her parents, religious beliefs, a lack of education? Usually the crime is unsolved and ends in a tiny unmarked grave or perhaps the child is never found and the numbers don't properly identify how common this occurrence is.
In this first case though the baby was saved in time and the mother and her family were located. Check out the links below for this macabre true story and some related articles.
