When we got little Douw in April 2014, he was a flea farm. His coat was dull and he smelled bad. The poor guy was scratching himself non-stop, I guess he was itching from his skin condition, as well as the fleas. This "before" photo, which I took a week or 2 later (there were already a lot of improvement then), will give you a good idea of how much the little guy was suffering.
I drove him to the vet straight away after I picked him up at the Rescue Centre, and got him some pills to kill the fleas and other parasites, and some shampoo that wouldn't irritate his skin even more.
Fortunately Lisa was already on special dog pellets as she also has a sensitive skin, so I started Douw on it too.
It took about three months of good food and lots of TLC to get him back to normal.
Today he is the doggy I knew he could be, and he rewards us daily with so much love. He is a good watch dog too, as he alerted me to a snake in my room once. Fortunately it was a brown house snake and not venomous, but I was freaking out a bit, until the snake decided it was much safer being outside than indoors.
Take care!
