Heard yesterday that in 2013 cats overtook dogs as the most popular pets. So I am a little behind on this news. Sorry!
But seriously, do you know a cat who can compete with Rosta?
I feel it has nothing to do with preference over the two species, but more so due to circumstances.
We have fewer single dwelling homes. The majority of apartments, rentals, etc. do not allow dogs. Not sure why. If you want a pet.....a cat is the obvious choice.
Cats are supposedly more independent when owners are away. And people are on the go a lot these days. I suspect it is a matter of convenience.
Cats don't go to obedience school, don't have to go outside to do the 'doo', be taken for a walk, have a secure yard or go to the groomer. Today many families have such a crowded lifestyle these obligations are deterrents.
So I'm thinking dogs are only less popular now because, like everything else, the choice is driven by other factors than simply like or dislike of dogs.
Too bad. I like lots of other people's cats but I am a dog lover at heart.
Gotta go....dog had to go outside.
