Wines with history - November 2017
Wine is friendship, we can call it as the construction of collective memories.
This was one of the particularities of one of our wine matching trials with the food. This time we accompany the wine with cheeses and grilled meats.
Manel served the wine, as soon as I sniffed the wine, something familiar became evident, after tasting it I said: I know this wine, I already drank this wine. For an amateur wine taster, this is the big goal in a totally blind test.
The smell of peppers was very evident, certainly a Cabernet Sauvignon, in the mouth, a good wine, penalized only by lthe ack of body.
Manel goes ahead, this is a wine with history in our tests ... continues to smell and taste to peppers ... reminiscent of a wine we drank in 2007 that I had chosen precisely for that reason, the peppers. Is it the Tall Horse of South Africa? Yes. Tall Horse 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon.
I knew this wine in 2007 in a wine tasting of the wineclock in Matosinhos with José Silva. At that time, among other wines, I really liked this wine because we were in June, very close to São João (feasts of the popular patron saint of this city, which is held in Porto and in which people eat sardines roasted with peppers) on that day, I said: Bring the sardines I already have here the peppers.
This is a good range wine .... I would advise it to anyone who wants to know what the smell of peppers in a wine is and with excellent value for money.
We continued with the test, as you would imagine, I was all pleased and full of enthusiasm. Manel serves the wine, I say fruity, Manel says floral ... it can not, or one or the other. In the mouth, fresh and with volume, it seems to me Douro, nevertheless the end of mouth has a different flavor, it can not be Douro. It is not Dão and is very fresh for Alentejo .... Manel continues to say flowers, I say fruit, maybe blackberries ... uhm, I'll have to bet on a wine from the Setúbal peninsula / Sado lands.
Manel reveals the bottle, he presents a beautiful Douro bottle (Quinta Nova Reserva Terroir Blend 2015) saying: Luis, sometimes the first instinct tells us the truth.
It is a good wine with complexity, fresh, with body but still young.

O vinho é amizade, é construção de memórias coletivas.
Esta foi mais um das particularidades de uma das nossas provas de harmonização de vinhos com a comida. Desta vez acompanhamos o vinho com queijos e carnes grelhadas.
O Manel serviu o vinho, assim que cheirei o vinho, algo familiar se evidenciou, provei e disse: eu conheço este vinho, eu já bebi este vinho. Para um provador amador de vinhos, este é o grande objetivo numa prova totalmente cega.
O cheiro a pimentos era muito evidente, de certeza um Cabernet Sauvignon, na boca, um bom vinho, penalizado apenas pela falta de corpo.
O Manel adianta, este é um vinho com história nas nossas provas... continua a cheirar e a saber a pimentos... fazendo lembrar um vinho que bebemos em 2007 que eu havia escolhido precisamente por essa razão, os pimentos. É o Tall Horse da África do Sul? Sim. Tall Horse 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Conheci este vinho em 2007 numa prova de vinhos da wineoclock em Matosinhos com o José Silva. Nessa altura, entre outros vinhos, gostei muito deste vinho porque estávamos em Junho, muito próximos do São João (festas do santo popular padroeiro desta cidade, que se realiza no Porto e na qual as pessoas comem sardinhas assadas com pimentos) asim que o provei nesse dia, disse: tragam as sardinhas que eu já tenho aqui os pimentos.
Este é um bom vinho de entrada de gama.... Aconselho-o a quem queira perceber o que é o cheiro a pimentos num vinho e com uma excelente relação qualidade/preço.
Continuamos com a prova, como seria de imaginar, eu estava todo contente e cheio de entusiasmo. O Manel serve o vinho, eu digo frutado, o Manel diz floral... não pode, ou um ou outro. Na boca, fresco e com volume, parece-me Douro, no entanto o fim de boca tem um sabor diferente, não pode ser Douro. Não é Dão e é muito fresco para Alentejo.... O Manel continua a dizer flores, eu a dizer fruta, talvez amoras...uhm, vou ter que apostar num vinho da península de Setúbal/terras do Sado.
O Manel revela a garrafa, apresenta uma bela garrafa do Douro (Quinta Nova Reserva Terroir Blend 2015) dizendo: Luís, às vezes o primeiro instinto diz-nos a verdade.
É um bom vinho com complexidade, fresco, com corpo mas ainda jovem.
