Are you living in darkness today?
Today is the Winter Solstice or midwinter on the northern hemisphere. That astronomical phenomenon is marking the day “with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year” – wrote Wikipedia. (It can be a very unpleasant and depressive feeling, I can tell you, even though the short day appears with cold and cloudy weather.)

For example, in Stockholm (Sweden), Northern Europe, the day is only 6 hours and 4 minutes long (Sunrise Today: 8:43 am Sunset Today: 2:48 pm). That means, 18 hours of darkness!
- In Paris, France, in the middle of Europe, 8 hours and 14 minutes of light and almost 16 hours of night feeling.
- Vancouver, Canada, 8 hours 11 minutes,
- Beijing (China) 9 hours 20 minutes, Tokyo (Japan) or Korean cities a little more.
- Anchorage (Alaska, USA) has only 5 hours and 27 minutes of light.
So my question is, how many hours of daylight do you have today, and how do you feel about it? (Please comment, that’s the funniest part.)
- I have less than 6 hours of daylight today. (Nearing North Pole...)
- I have 6-9 hours of daylight. (Most parts of Europe, Canada, Northern parts of China, Japan, Korea.)
- I have 9-12 hours of daylight. (Lucky ones.)
- I have 12-18 hours of daylight. (Southern hemisphere, I suppose.)
- More than 18 hours (I’m living on or near Antarctica)
