The belly of the beast, is an elevator!
What an incredible place this was. Once again a building I would have never thought of going into, but my job brought me there and here are some photos.
This text, I copied from a wall on the floor we were working on:
In 1987, Johnny Swing and John Carter-then students at SKowhegan School of Painting in Maine-met John Veronis in the East Village (NYC)The trio began making collaborative sculptures out of Swing's studio in Alphabet City. Together they would be knowen as The Three J's.
Before long, their work came to the attention of SIG Partner and iconic Chelsea Market developer Erwin Cohen.
In 1991 the Corporate Life Insurance Company and SIG Partners gave The Three J's the run of its public spaces. They artified everything in sight: A totaled-out school bus was remodeled into a dragon; airplanes were dismantled and turned into all manner of whimsical visions. Visitors and tenants alike were, and continue to be, delighted by the works.
"We tried to create a building where people would be excited to come to work," Cohen has explained.
