On this Feast Day of St. George the Dragon Slayer, I thought I鈥檇 share this series of images from the archive. These three images are from 2014, 2017, and 2019 respectively. Which do you think works best?
Of course, St. George鈥檚 victory over the dragon is itself a refraction of the supreme victory over the ultimate Dragon achieved by our Lord on the cross.
That鈥檚 what this image envisions.
The head of the serpent is crushed as Christ, through death, destroys the one who has the power of death, and so frees all those who were held in slavery by the fear of death.
Indeed, Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life.
