I saw an even mixture of "attack", "befriend", "run" and "hide" last time. However many still seemed to want to go after the axe or jug, so our hero hides under the bed, hoping to escape notice long enough for the beast to leave. Indeed he does leave...and takes the axe with him.
While under the bed, you notice the coins within arm's reach. There's also a spider, and some sort of mysterious wooden object taped to the bed's underside which you can only guess at the purpose of.
