Doctor Who Fan Art Drawing (Color Rendering with Process Pictures)

As many of you may know, I was the guest judge for Hive account@tonyr "Learn to Draw with Friends" contest last week with the theme of Doctor Who. I decided to hold off on my drawing until I the contest was completed and the winners were announce, partly to stay neutral and partly becasue I wasn't following the rules this time around. :-)

I knew from the minute Tony officially chose the theme that I wanted to do a combined "Fan Art" style drawing, similar to my Whaleshares Royal Court drawing from the previous week. I had a lot of fun drawing that picture and wanted to do the same style with this one.

I had many life interruptions over the last week and had to start/stop this drawing several times, so it took longer than usual to complete it. I finally got it done last night.

The Doctor (Peter Capaldi), the TARDIS, and a Dalek.

My Work in Progress Pictures:

On the first day I sketched in the 3 parts of the drawing.

The second day I started to color in The Doctor and the Dalek.

I decided to fully render the Dalek first to gauge the color darkness.

Then finished the day coloring The Doctor's coat and hand.

Then things went a bit wrong. I made the decision to color in the TARDIS next and finish with The Doctor's face. In the process, I turned the paper sideways to get a better angle on filling in the words "Police Box" at the top and smudged up all the rough-in lines on his face. I attempted to erase them and start over and that made it worse. So I just went with it and got it done the best I could.

You can't win them all.
